Dinner Friday:
Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo Garlic bread Salad Dessert - mini cheesecakes Saturday: Breakfast Eggs Bacon and Sausage Biscuits and Gravy Fruits Juices Lunch: Taco Bar Snickerdoodle bars for dessert Dinner: Pork Loin Roasted sweet and white potatoes Green beans Hot roll Salad bar Peach crisp with ice cream Sunday: Breakfast Casserole Cinnamon Rolls Fruits Making name badges and getting things organized. Plan on packing *light* friends. We won't have a lot of extra space for tons of supplies, not sure we will have a table for drop'n'swap in the main crafting room. I'm putting together a couple of give aways and finishing up the screen printing process. Update on the menu: Friday Diner: Baked Potato Bar w/ all kinds of items to dress them up, salad bar, fruit, desert. Saturday Breakfast Scrambled eggs, oatmeal, bacon, biscuit & gravy, jelly, fruit, drinks Orange, Grape, Apple juice 2% Milk, coffee Lunch Chicken Salad Croissant sandwich Pasta Salad, Fruit, cookies, salad bar, drinks Diner Smoked Roast beef, mixed vegetables, rolls, salad bar, desert, fruit, drinks Sunday Breakfast: Cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, fruit, sausage patties, biscuit, jelly Orange, Grape, Apple juice 2% Milk, coffee Here are the screen print designs for this year. These are two different designs, even though they look like one! I decided to just make two screens now, and I will have all the existing designs at both retreats this year. I also bought some day-glow ink colors, hopefully they look cool! Below that, you can see some new ink colors.
Highlights:
'Nailed It' Ice breaker game Amber mastering the hover round Show 'n' tell on Saturday night The food: Chicken alfredo was delicious! Screen printing was a hit again! Not so highlights: Poor Carol! Izzi had to do homework Vampire University was a dud and could not hear Sherlock Here is a list of people attending this spring. Amber had to cancel--we will miss her!! In case you were wondering about the screen print. I will have some of the screens from previous retreats (I have a really cute one with a fox!) and I also have two new screens this year.
The two screens could be used together with 2 different colors---or you could just use one. (I have the design, the screen and the materials ready, I just haven't actually made the screens yet, I am doing that this weekend, and I will post an example on the FB page when I have one ready). As far as ink colors---hot pink (new!), metallic pink, metallic blue, white (new), black, green, orange, gold, brown. You can bring anything fabric to print on---t-shirt, tote bag, pillow case, or even just scrapbook paper. The screen print is free and I will demonstrate how to do it on Saturday afternoon. It is a fun keepsake from the weekend! Screen 1 is the 'step away from the screen---go make something.' Screen 2 is a big pair of scissors--very versatile! Hello! I just got off the phone with Kevin, the campground director. I had sent him a message last week about the menu, and hadn't heard back, so I just emailed him again today. He called me from the hospital waiting room. His poor wife has been really sick this year, and actually just had knee surgery!! But--he is meeting with the new cook tomorrow to finalize the menu and he will email me in the next few days to confirm. Here is what I know: 1. Kevin is meeting with the new cook tomorrow. The new cook has experience with Camp Quality and the Writer's guild camps at the campground--so I am sure she will be great and she is familiar with the facility. She has a team of two other women on staff to help her prepare the meals. 2. Kevin creates the menu based on what is already in stock, what is fairly easy to order in bulk, and what the chef is comfortable preparing for a large group. 3. Kevin admittedly is a 'meat and potatoes guy' so he doesn't have any knowledge of vegan or vegetarian cuisine. I do my best to suggest things to him, but he considers a salad bar to be 'covering' the bases for vegetarian and vegan entrees. Note: The campground doesn't do well in the way of sauces and condiments that are appropriate for vegetarian and vegan dishes. I'm sorry about that, but I don't have a lot of control over that, our money is budgeted based on what is realistic to prepare for 45 people, and the budget only goes so far for specialty items. Feel free to bring your own stash of stuff if you are worried--I don't want anyone to go hungry! 4. We have found that it is better to request fruit for dessert---instead of a big cake or cookies---since so many people bring candy and snacks to share. Believe me--the fruit is an amazing option and saves the cook a lot of time! The picture above is a favorite of mine: 'snack soup'.....I like to mix all my snacks in a bowl while I munch-craft-munch. 5. Since we don't budget for a meal on Friday---and so many people are coming down early in the day, Kevin has offered to grill burgers and make oven fries for a low price of $4 if you want to bring some cash and don't want to leave to grab dinner. YAY!! 6. Here is the tentative menu for Saturday and Sunday: Breakfast both days: eggs, biscuits, gravy, sausage or bacon, oatmeal and toppings, fruit Lunch: Breaded baked chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad bar, fruit Dinner: 25lb smoked beef roast, baked potato, salad bar, vegetable, fruit *Subject to change after the meeting tomorrow...so no guarantees.... 1. We can arrive at the campground around noon on the 10th, please be mindful of our large group who will straggle in throughout the day, we need to save room for everyone.. I need people to help show the newbies around---there's a bunch!! 2. With 45 women, we need to plan to share tables---I think two per table--just to be safe. 3. I don't assign rooms because I can't keep track of who knows who, so please be flexible about sharing rooms, we can open some cabins if you want privacy but cabins don't have toilets. 4. If you have not contacted me about registration, you are out. We are full!! I have a few on my list who haven't paid, so please get me your paperwork by March 28th or you are out. 5. I will post the menu after the 28th, as that is when I will know all the food allergies and special accommodations and I can get a headcount to the chef. 6. If something on the menu offends you, we always have tons of snacks. You are welcome to bring snacks to share or your own food to store in the refrigerator. 7. If this is your first time, please check out the F AQs on the website. :-) http://nelliepalooza.weebly.com/faq.html 8. You can pull up to the door of the crafting lodge to unload and then move your car to one of the parking areas for the weekend. 9. If you have a question, you can text me 417-438-8698, but if you get lost on the way, I might not be able to help much so use the campground address in your GPS. Ozark Camp and Retreat Center 10357 Eland Rd, Neosho, MO 64850-7283 (use Google Maps for directions on your smartphone or click here.) 10. I will post the final list of attendees next week, I'm waiting on a few registrations and a few maybes to come in by the 28th. If you want to know if someone has signed up, I may not know off the top of my head---esp. if I've never met them. 11. I'm looking for someone to clean up after us -- I am usually too tired and I'd rather pay someone than stay a couple of extra hours. I know, I'm lazy but I work full time and this is my retreat too. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please let me know. I just read a crazy article about scrappin' retreats. They mention that people often spend up to $1,000 on registration, hotel fees, spa services, meals, and shopping with the retreat's vendors.
My intention with this twice-a-year event is to provide an inexpensive space for women to get creative and relax. Many of the guests are scrapbookers, but plenty of them make jewelery, paint, sew, or work on the latest and greatest Pinterest project. I think it is important to make time for projects that matter, whether it is organizing your photos, making a photobook online, or prepping pretty stuff for a nursery. I have been approached by people about having vendors at the campground....and I have seriously considered it. I have also thought about teaching card/stamping classes during the weekend. At this point, I just feel like having a simple event, without a lot of overhead is the only thing I can really manage. I work full time and it is all I can do to stay in contact with the campground, enter all of the registration info, manage the website and facebook page, update forms and information twice a year, get event insurance, and coordinate with the campground cook for the meals. I want the event to be a getaway for myself, just as much as it is for everyone else. |
